Beach Sports

SEMGeeks2018-06-27T09:13:39-04:00

Have you been to the beach yet this year? If not, you’ll have plenty of time to hit the sand and surf as summer gears up. It’s easy to lay down a towel and bask in the sunlight all day, but the beach is an excellent, and easy, place to get some exercise.

A beach workout can be something as simple as walking along the shore and looking for seashells. Sand isn’t a very stable surface, so even just walking will warm up the muscles in your legs and core, since your body needs to do more work to stay balanced.

Want to kick it up a notch? Start running! Running in sand helps to strengthen your legs since you have to work harder to move your feet, especially in the deep sand farther up the beach.

Start a pickup football game. Chances are, you’re visiting the coast with you friends and family, so split into teams and start playing!

Jump in! Go for a swim while you’re surrounded by all that water. Sometimes water looks calmer than it is, so check in with the lifeguards and know your limits.

Exercise your brain. Not into going for a sandy sprint? Break out that crossword puzzle and get to work stretching your smarts.

Bring a yoga mat. There are no shortage of sunrise yoga/meditation classes or you could start your own! Spent a few minutes breathing deeply and stretching those muscles.

What’s your favorite beach activity?

**Don’t forget to apply sunscreen and stay hydrated!
