Some activities in the tri state area for getting outside

SEMGeeks2018-03-21T10:42:16-04:00

If you’re like us, you’ve got a mean case of cabin-fever and are looking for any excuse to get outside. So if you’re looking for weekend plans, look no farther than your neighboring towns. With three states in the surrounding area, there are plenty of outdoor activities to choose from!

Land-

Dust off your boots and go for a hike in Bear Mountain State Park, along the Appalachian Trail, or in the Adirondacks Mountains. Nothing gets your blood pumping quite like fresh air, a new trail, and the great outdoors. Go with a friend and pack a lunch for an adventurous day-hike close to home! Pro Tip- If you go out alone, make sure to tell someone where you’re going and when you’ll return.

Water-

Get your feet wet rafting down the Delaware River or hit the coast and catch some surf! With SUP (stand up paddleboard) and surf lessons and board rentals in the summer, you can carve some waves at the Jersey Shore or any of the New York beaches. Surfing not your thing? Check out any one of the state park lakes in the area for swimming, wading, or boating in calm waters.

Air-

Who says you need to keep your feet on the ground? Test your balance and bravery at Mountain Creek’s Ziplining and Ropes Course. This treetop obstacle course is great for parties and groups, so get your friends together and go climbing! It’s a happy medium between hiking and sky diving. Speaking of sky diving, jumping out of a perfectly good airplane is an awesome way to see the area from a completely different perspective!

Social-

Check out your local outdoor music venues and farmer’s markets for a way to immerse yourself in the community. Considering joining a running or hiking club for a way to meet new people and stay active. Don’t forget, with spring comes beautiful flowers, so be sure to check out local botanical gardens or even your town’s nursery to inspire your own garden.

From mountains and rivers to the ocean and sky, there are endless outdoor opportunities in the tri-state area, so get exploring!
