Stay Positive While Recovering from an Injury
Stay Positive While Recovering from an Injury
Recovering from an injury takes time and work, and it’s important to maintain a positive attitude until you’re back to 100%. It’s normal to feel frustrated about the progress of your recovery, so we’ve compiled a few ideas to keep your spirits up while you’re healing.
Find a new hobby or project in the meantime. Sometimes injury recovery involves lots of ‘lounging around and not moving too much’ time, so take this opportunity to catch up on your Book Club list or dive into knitting or doing puzzles. If there’s something you haven’t had the patience or time for lately, now might be the time to try it!
Focus on the progress you’ve made. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed with appointments or your list of strengthening activities, but if you take a look back at Day 1, you can see how far you’ve come and how much stronger you are. It’s much more positive to see how far you’ve come instead of concentrating on how far you have to go.
Surround yourself with friends and family. Find your support system and stick with them because they’re going to be the ones encouraging you to keeping working towards a healthy and injury-free life.
Take up activities like yoga and meditation. Breathing exercises and stretches or gentle yoga help to strengthen and, in turn, heal your body. Training your body and brain in new ways will give you the tools to strengthen your mind and perhaps gain a different perspective.
Go easy on yourself. Have patience, rest when you need to, and take your time in your recovery. Don’t beat yourself up if you’re not as far along as you think you should be. Healing from an injury takes time, and it’s okay to take all the time you need.
Staying positive is imperative in your physical rehabilitation.
